Re: First Tube Failure

Based on my experience, 1500 hours seems like very little time

Output tubes, if they are good quality, should be more like 3000 - 5000 hours, depending on how hot they are run. They should fail by losing power, not by arcing, etc. A tube which arcs is either poor quality, defective, or is being operated outside of its suggested ratings.

Preamp tubes should go to 10,000 hours, and then just slowly lose emmission.

I've noticed Sovtek 12AX7's and 5881's which come with modern guitar amps seem to have unusually short lives compared to the 'normal' Sylvania, GE, etc I am more accustomed to, so maybe the 1500 hour life comment is valid in some circumstances.
