I had the same thoughts dls123 had. I won't tell you which EL34s are best even though my WAF system integrated and my main rig mono block power amps use them. There are realistically only a few viable choices. You need serious money to buy true NOS real XF2s that match in a quad or more. I'm not even sure they can be bought at all. The only time I tried to buy NOS Mullard EL34s I got some of the worst sounding tubes I ever heard.
I will tell you that if you look in these AA classifieds under Tubes there is a 6SN7 specialist who is name is Len. Discuss your desired sound with him, he knows what he is talking about and is a true expert. He has always sold me superb tubes.BTW Tung Sol Round plates are expensive and scarce I have them. They are known for essentially having perfect ?accurate tonal balance and they stage beautifully. However do you want to spend $400 on a pair? Sylvania GT Ws Tall bottles with metal bases are even more. No I won't spend the money but I do have the short bottles they have good extension speed and a lush midrange. Again these will run you $200 or so. If you are on a budget get some Sylvania GTBs they are abundant and euphonic, RCA GTBs can be had for very little in very fine condition. They are a faster less colored sounding tube. All this Is obviously just IMHO.
