I have had 417A/5842 tubes from WE, Raytheon and Amperex. I don't know for sure who the manufacturer is , but I can say that they sound different to me. The WE is the richest sounding, the Raytheon sounds leaner and a little grainy by comparison, and the Amperex (PQ with gold pins)is not as warm & rich as the WE, but has better detail and sounds more open.
