Can KT-77 tubes be used in an ultralinear amp wired for triode operation ?

I have an Anthem AMP-1 which I had modified to run the EL-34 tubes in triode mode. The EL-34 is a pentode. The KT-77's (JJ) I'm switching to are a beam tetrode. The Anthem manual says I can use KT-77's but I'm wondering if I have to restore the amp to ultralinear operation before installing them. If the KT-77's can be operated in triode mode what are the sonic results? I far preferred the sound of this amp in triode mode with the EL-34's and I wonder if the same is true of the KT-77's.
