On 26 August Michael Samra posted this note in the linked thread. "The SED and the EH and the Penta shuguang are all excellent tubes..(sic) THe (sic) last mentioned is my personal favorite in many amps but the trouble is you cant (sic) get them and Penta is selling the holed version from my understanding at the same price which is dirty tactics as far as Im (sic) concerned."Upon reading that, I e-mailed Penta, asking "Rumor has you folks substituting 'holed' Shuguang KT88s for the no-holes KT88SC. Any truth to that?"
Penta's Steve Sanett responded "NO, WE HAVE IN STOCK THE ORIGINAL KT88SC NON HOLED ORIGINAL TYPE. I BELIEVE THAT WE RECENTLY MAY HAVE SHIPPED BY MISTAKE SOME HOLED KT88. THIS INVENTORY HAS BEEN PULLED AND THE SITUATION HAS BEEN RESOLVED…"
So...apparently they did ship some holed '88s instead of the no-holes '88, but unless one believes Penta is lying, that was inadvertant and Penta resolved the situation.
So apparently the no-holes version of the Shuguang '88 is indeed available. Live it up, boys and girls. :-)
