Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
I recently wanted to test a KT66 with my Hickok 6000a (which is calibrated and works fine). When pressing the test button, the tube glowed purple and the needle turned to the left. I took out the tube. Obviously, there were some shortages in the tube which I, quite stupidly, did not notice.
Now, the tube tester still works, but all tubes measure way too low. The needle turns to the left, even with new tubes (regardles of the type of tube I test). I replaced the 83 and the 5Y3GT rectifier tubes. The results are the same, so the rectifier tubes did not get damaged.
Before I re-calibrate the tester, I wonder which parts could have been damaged by using the tester with a shortaged tube. Any ideas which parts (resistors, condensators) to replace?
Thanks, Ulrich
