if you remove the anode...

there won't be any anode voltage. You say that you want to take out the anode and just use the cathode and grid to generate electron pulses. But then you say that the anode voltage won't (shouldn't) be more than 100 volts. If you remove the anode then there won't BE any anode voltage. Am I missing something here?

Furthermore, without an anode, you won't likely have an electron flow because you'd have what would basically amount to an open circuit. The anode is there of necessity. Well, fill me on what I'm missing in this question.

Lastly, if you heat the cathode and try to get it to operate in an open atmosphere, it won't last very long. Oxygen will ensure it's speedy demise.
