I've had a couple of preamps that use the 6DJ8 tube, but I don't know the Assemblage, so your mileage may differ.I'm assuming you're willing to bite the bullet and find/pay for old production tubes.
I tried a number of 7308's. In general, they were super-detailed -- especially the german Siemens/Telefunkens, but not really warm on vocals. I remember some Sylvanias that I liked, and some Amperex.
The opposite extreme were PQ (premium quality?) Amperex 7308s from the early 1960s (white lettering?) and D-getters. These were sweet and warm, but maybe a bit less detailed than the Siemens. But I liked them a lot until they became microphonic, after which I could use them in the linestage, but not in my phono section.
I also had some Sylvania 6DJ8's (steel pins) that worked well in the line stage, but were microphonic. I had some Hewlett Packard labelled 6DJ8's that were also great.
I've tried modern production 6922's (Sovtek, I think) and a Russian variant and found both of them dynamic, but rough compared to my favorite Amperex. If you can source them, I think the 7308s are the way to go.
I'm sure others have a lot more experience than I do, but these are tubes that I have personally used and tried.
Hope this helps!
