Re: Looking for suggestion for a nice but cheap tube amp.

Depending on the efficiency of your speakers, you might be pleased and surprised in owning one of the great variety of "vintage" 6BQ5 amps pretty commonly available.

The 6BQ5 is a fantastic sounding output tube and, as attested to on AA, highly regarded if 12-20 watts per side will work for you. If you have a good preamp, all the better, although straight power amps or monoblocs are a little less plentiful. $500 will go a long way in this particular arena.

Search archives for testimonials. Contact me offline if you want a reputable, non-EBAY source. I am not a seller; I just know a few who are trustworthy, IMHO.

BTW, in my opinion, 6BQ5 tubes, current production or NOS, are still, relatively speaking, more affordable than some of the others, i.e., EL 34, 6550, 6L6, etc.
