Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

Be prepared. The price of admission on a Dynaco is not always what it seems.

First, I love my Dynaco. I bought if for $350. But changing the power supply is a must (mine was already broken), $100. The power tranny ran into some problems, $100. Got a pre-amp? $300. Is it coming with new tubes? $100 (at least). Tube sockets good and tight, choke ok, that old board need replacing, plan on using modern interconnects with fat RCA plugs, want some new terminal strips, that old wiring cracking, insulation on the trannys still good? If you can't solder, don't even think about it. The only thing left stock on mine are the output tubes. Without the Bottlehead pre I am easily over $1,100 that I have spent getting this thing up to par. Which is not to say this is the normal way things go, probably not. But just because the upfront cost is inexpensive that isn't necessarily how it is going to end up with old equipment. However, I love my Dynaco and think it is wonderful and it has been worth every penny. But it was a pretty one.
