I have a pair of Telefunken ECC189 which I bought a few years ago to use in the line stage of my Audible Illusions 2C. The gain dropped dramatically when I used them, forcing me to turn the volume pots well past the normal setting for a given level of volume. Now, however, this can be an advantage due to the relatively high output of my CD player. Does anyone know whether this is an appropriate tube to use with this preamp?? They seem somewhat less dynamic although this may be just the psychological effect of having to turn the volume controls higher to reach the same volume as with the previous tubes. Thanks for your insights.......
