Well, it looks like I have a short in one of the 7868's in my Fisher 400. I really like the tone of the stock tubes but the prices for NOS matched pairs are out of this world. SND Tubes, for example, wants $50 for ONE RCA black plate 7868, what I assume is the "creme de la creme" of 7868's.
So, the EH 7868 is looking pretty attractive at this point, but I've read in the archives that the larger pins will render the sockets useless for NOS tubes. Also, for best performance, many users recommend an adjustment to the bias. I am not capable of doing this myself.
Any thoughts?
