I'm on my second set of Svetlana '88s. There was some talk about 3-4 years ago that they would no longer be available, so I bought 2 quads and have just installed the second. It is very possible that the new production (different name now too, I think) are not exactly the same. I'd ask Kevin at Upscale if they are the same if you go this route - he sold them to me, and was aware at the time of the concerns with the company, and should know about the new stuff.I have not tried anything else other than the Golden Dragons (stock in~97). The Svets seem to be full-sounding and have no serious drawbacks.
FWIW, I'd like to try the Type III '90s if I had time and funds for rolling.
