Re: Cayin TA-30 tube question?

Hi Robert,

Good to hear you are enjoying the Cayin. From everything I've read it sounds like a great amp. Paul is a good guy too.

I've only had experience tube rolling in pre's. But from my limited experience it can make a huge difference. I'm sure you'll be able to dail in the sound you want.

I noticed you are using the original Fortes' and I wanted to share my experience with them. I've had them since '86 and have always enjoyed them. Until about 18 months ago I had always used them with my Pioneer rack system I've had since '85. It has a big EQ and tone controls. So I was able to "control" the sound I was getting. With this set up I never had an issue with the Fortes' being "bright" or "harsh"

Then I got into "HiFi". I purchased an NAD320BEE and C541i cdp. Thank goodness for tone controls on the NAD. With those I toned down the treble a bit. Then I got into tubes. I tried some equipment. Long story short. When I mated the Fortes' with a 16 watt SET and a 6SN7 octal tube pre it was amazing. The Fortes' are no longer "bright" or "harsh". The soundstage is wide and deep and the music is pouring out of the speakers. The resolution is amazing. They just sing. I'm sure I'll upgrade speakers someday But the Klpisch will always be somewhere making music in my home. I've auditioned many speakers and none have moved me yet to displace my Fortes'.

Sorry for the long post. I thought you might want to hear from another Forte' owner and their experience. I know I wish someone had told me to try tubes before I spent nearly a year checking out SS. Lots of great SS stuff out there. I just happen to be a tube guy. I hope you continue to enjoy your Fortes'. Happy listening.

Cheers
