Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
Based on asylum recommendations I tried out a pair of the above JJ's in V1 and V2 of my EAR834P phono replacing a pair of old tubes, one no markings, the other a Matsushita, both originally pulled from a friend's old Lafayette amp. I left a Siemens 12AU7 in V3. Result? Not bad. Quieter compared to slight hiss with the old tubes. Good frequency extension, but narrower sound stage and less detail resulting in a more homogenized sound. Overall, given that my old tubes are unlikely the best around I would rate the JJ's as satisfactory at best.
