Warm sounding 12ax7/12au7 in Rogue

My system consists of Jolida JD-100, Rogue 99/88, and ProAc reposnse 1.5. I have NOS RCA in my Rogue 99 and EH kt88 in Rogue 88, but still use stock small tubes in both jolida and rogue 88. I found my system bright (due to ProAc, I believe), and hope better small tubes can cure this. Per talk with Mark at Rogue, he recommend Mullard 12au7, and RCA 12ax7. Mullard 12au7 is kind of expensive ($25/tube at UpscaleAudio). Are there other 12au7s close to it soundwise? I have seen people happy with Mullard 12ax7. How would you characterize the sound of RCA and Mullard? What's the defference between Black Long Plate RCA and Grey plate RCA?
