Re: ARC - Bad circuit designs that eat tubes?

Willo, the guy you talked to was full of baloney, the 6922 works perfect, with respect to the tube voltage. I use the Amperex 7308 type in my LS 15 and it sounds just fine. The cross couple circuitry makes it less sensitive with minor circuit imbalances and produces better sonic results. I agree that Chris got too silly, but he is right about the resale value. I purchased my LS 15 for a grand from a friend and it goes for $1200 to $1400 on eBay! If you can’t name your information source, why mention it? To say some company is bad or is hard on tubes, well, the source should come forward, otherwise its just baloney! Yes, the 6922 ( E88CC ) is the right tube for the AR circut. I have used the Amperex orange globe matched pair in the back stage driver and they really add depth. I usually run the PQ 6922, in front stage. This offers a good deep three dimensional sound, with just a little more aggressiveness compared to the Amperex 7308 quad. All 7308, I think is the best, but I'm using up the PQ 6922's now. If you want to tame it a bit, use Russian type 6922's in the front.
I agree that the VT 100 is not the best power amplifier, I like the Classic 60, because I run all XLR interconnects, I have the V70 for my ribbon mids and highs, and a big Parasound just for the bass. This brings me to another issue, who in the world thinks the XLRs are more noisy than RCAs? That is just plain crazy, says the old Wolf!
