is entirely based on heresay. It does not reflect my experience with that amp. In fact, the demo model that I purchased could reasonably have been considered "abused", because there were "feet marks" of some other component on the top cover. Cosmetically insignificant, it was nevertheless indicative that the amp had been used in direct conflict with ARC's instruction to provide 12" of clearance above the unit. Even still, the unit got over three year's heavy use out of the tubes before needing replacement.I will fault ARC, however, for requiring matched quads in that amp. That is because the bias is set collectively for the quad. Biasing the VT-100 is a nightmare. If you have not yet read Abe Collins' odyssey in that regard, I suggest you check the archives and follow his detailed account. My current VTL MB450s allow for easy biasing of each output tube without standing on your head as with the VT-100.
