Anyone else that has one of these beasties , SP-10, will, in all likelihood, do the same thing as Leonard If you want that much gain without an additional step-up, then you better damn well have really quiet tubes! So you have a couple of choices. Pony on up to the table and buy decent tubes for the thing, i.e. 6922 or better, or don't demand so much gain. Nothing wrong with the circuit; I imagine any similiar approaches require similiar type tubes to achieve similiar type results.Sounds like Leonard was pretty clear on the VT100/6DJ8 issue. Don't use them. Stick with 6922. The 6DJ8 and 6922, while very similiar tubes, are not the same thing. Don't blame the amp if you use the wrong tube.
You bought two, used, represented as mint I am sure, with low mileage, VT100. Turns out they were anything but, and somehow that is a poor design on ARC's part.
I guess at this point I am confused. Haven't heard anything yet that sounds like poor design on ARC's part, just misuse of the equipment. Or is good design suppost to work perfectly when using the wrong tubes?
