After shipping and taxes (I happen to live in Texas where GR Research is as well) the total was just over $560. That price also included enclosures and the "Black Hole" dampening upgrade ($48) which is recommended but not essential. In all honesty, you just can't touch the quality of these puppies without spending almost twice that much. Your money goes into the quality of the components and the careful voicing of the crossover network design. I've heard some of Danny's other designs and he has a great sense of what it takes for a speaker to be musical.Assembling them is really pretty easy, especially if you have any experience with a soldering iron but I would say you could easily attempt these with no experience. I think it will give you a deeper appreciation and a greater understanding of speakers in general. I think you can get them pre-assembled as well (at a price). Just go to GR-Research website for pricing or shoot Danny an e-mail.
