Have you considered upgrading your 3's to 3a Signatures ? I sent mine to Vandersteen for this upgrade two weeks ago (Cost: $1400 + shipping and insurance, but only about $800 if you already have 3a's). Can't wait to get them back. From what I've heard from my dealer and from others on this board, it's a real bargain as far as speaker upgrades go.
