Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Moving Pictures has been my "reference" cd for quite a while

Moving Pictures was the cd I used as a reference when I had B&W CDM-7SE's (my first "high-end" speakers). I wanted to hear Neil Peart roll across that drum kit with AUTHORITY. But the sound was not good. I changed all the front-end components, added a dac, went from ss to tubes, upgraded the xover components, and still was not happy for exactly the same reason. My ears were bleeding!!

Save yourself some money, time and effort, and get different speakers. Don't try to tweak the speakers, and don't start with the front-end of the chain. I upgraded to Aerial Model 8's, and could not be happier. I can listen to Moving Pictures at substantial volume levels without getting fatigued. I am using JPS Labs Super2 ic's and cables, and the presentation is fantastic.

I listen to a variety of music, and Aerials play it all very well. The R&R is smooth at higher volume levels (except for Billy Squier. nothing can help that cd), and the imaging on hdcd R&R cd's, jazz and vocal cd's is fantastic. I am happy with my system every time I fire it up, no matter what I am listening to.

Don't make the same mistakes I did. Email me if you want some more info about my very long road to audio bliss...
