I am going to college this fall and I have a budget of $500 to spend on new speakers. I will be in a decent sized dorm room. I have converted all my cd's to mp3 and saved them on my computer, on which I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. Music is my primary use for these speakers and I understand that a 2 speaker system with an amp and/or preamp would be optimal for music. I really want the highest possibly quality that I can get for $500 that is for music only. Some friends have recommended multimedia systems that work for gaming and movies as well but those are all of secondary importance to me. Does anyone have a recommendation for what exactly I should look for? Thanks.
