johnny5,

IMO, the AV1's are more dynamic, open, and have a wider soundstage than what I heard from the Haydns. THe AV's are more forward sounding or aggressive in the attack of music than the Haydns were, which is what I prefer. I am not a big fan of the laid back sound. I prefer a more aggressive treble, not to the point of listener fatigue, but what I consider true to the music and instruments. IMO, the AV1's capture that.

The AV1's have outstanding midrange reproduction, that is their best quality. The soundstage is worth mentioning as well, if set up properly, they have a huge soundstage.

The bass is very respectable to 55hz or so, it drops off pretty fast after that, room gain may help out. I definately think they sound best with a sub, but are very nice alone. I am a bass freak, so take that with a grain of salt...I think all speakers benefit from a sub.....or two.

If you would like more info, please go to www.harmonicdiscord.com Gr has a dedicated forum with other reviews and info. Definately do a search of the whole forum for user name MikeD., I have a few replies to GR inquiries. I also posted a little ways down in response to Scott Oliver and Danny about the Austin meet and GR's speakers.

I would also search this forum under user name jonbee, he seems to have heard quite a few speakers in his own setup versus the GR Paradox 1. Granted, it is the Paradox, but the AV uses the same woofer.

Over at www.hometheaterforum.com under the DIY forum, you will find Brian Bungee's review of the AV1, although, I do believe it is also in the GR forum at harmonic discord as well.
