I recently went through some of the same decision making processes. I listened to the 3.0 and like it very much, though there were some aspects of its ported bass I did not like. The knock I have heard on the 3.3 is that the bass is not especially well integrated into dynaudio's consistently escellent and smooth midrange. My listening room is a bit of a problem as it is my main living space also...therefore, I have to keep the speakers within several feet of the back wall.
My solution was to get the Confidence 5's (sealed enclosure) and a subwoofer. I will likely upgrade the sub at some point, but I have gotten surprisingly good results with an Energy 12...
This has allowed me maximum flexibility with placement. I can tell you one thing, though, I would not be satisfied with the bass of the Confidence 5 without the sub.
I am driving them with an Ayre V5, and using a Cary 303/100 CD. A very sweet sound, but still with incredible resolution.
Good Luck,
Rick
