I believe that Lavardin uses relatively higher feedback (as compared to the trend toward lower or "zero" feedback designs these days) in their amps, if I remember correctly. Lack of "memory distortion" is their thing, using solid state devices that mimic vacuum tube signal amplification behavior, in that signals in silicon are not as adversely affected by traces immediately preceding them, analogous to the vacuum in a vacuum tube, which doesn't retain "signal traces".

As for the Merlins with the Lavardin I have no idea, although Michael Fremer loved them in his Stereophile review in the Sept. 2001 issue. Like any other speaker/amp combination, you'd have to audition them together and decide for yourself. Good luck.
