First of all, I wouldn't recommend the modification you're contemplating. The DQ-1W's sounded pretty damn good just as they were. BUT, if the urge to modify them has overtaken you, then the first thing to do is find the Thiele/Small parameters of the woofer. The best way is to measure them yourself or have someone else do it if you don't have the equipment necessary. What you'll probably find is venting a woofer designed for use in a closed box will require an enclosure roughly twice as large as your existing one.How 'bout this as an alternate suggestion: Sell the Dahlquists as is on e-Bay and use the proceedes to build one of the sub DIY projects available from ACI, Parts Express, Madisound, Meniscus, Shiva, Stryke, or Hsu. I think that would work out better in the long run.
