Re: Help with slight buzz on TC-60

Alan,

It could be a tweeter going bad.

Or, it might be some crud built up in or on the tweeter dome. Might also be a damaged connection, either where the speaker cables connect or even at the crossover or at the tweeter. Might even be as simple as the tweeter's screws getting loose (had that happen once, took me 3-4 days to pin it down!)

Unfortunately if it is a bad tweeter, the tweeters used by Spica are an older Audax model no longer in production. You might try asking on the madisound site,(www.madisound.com). I'd be willing to bet that someone there could point you to a decent replacement tweeter.

Several caveats if you do have to replace a tweeter:
1. you'll have to get a pair of tweeters, otherwise the speakers won't sound the same (unbalanced sound).
2. the speakers will sound different.
3. the crossover probably won't be correct for the replacement tweeters. It may work OK, it may work so-so, or it may sound terrible.
4. you may have to modify the tweeter cutout to fit the tweeter correctly.
5. any modification you do will effectively reduce the resale value of the TC-60's to just about $0. OTOH, if you try to sell the speakers w/ a bad tweeter you won't be much further ahead.

Good luck, hope you can revive your speakers.
