Dear MM,I have Sony SCD 777 es and run it full bandwidth into valve pre and power then to my ACR Eckhorn (similar to klipschorn).
The tweeter is good to 40khz, so why did i add a pair of Pioneer
PT R7 super tweeters good to 100khz.]The reason is simple it sounded much better with it added.
the bass was faster and much more articulate, mid definition improved and the treble is truely superb. I was sold so i bought the super tweeters.I am 43 years of age with pretty good hearing acuity, but top out at about 15-16 khz using test tones.
My advice is to as you are in the states is to try a pair of TAD PTR 9
super tweeters i believe they are approx$1500,00 per pair pretty stiff but a fabulous pair of tweeters.so suck it and see.
I have heard the Sony 's at a hifi show but they are not for sale in the uk.I have also heard the Tannoy's and they are available here but at £1100.00 = $1500.00 pr pair. I have seen the KEF but not heard it i bbelieve Japan only.
