I own the PF15TL. I haven't heard the Paradigm, though I'm a fan of their general price/performance ratio.The TL on the Def Tech stands for Transmission Line. There's no port per se. The cabinet has internal convolutions which end in a large slot at the back of the sub. I hear no chuffing or "port" noise.
I use the TL for home theater, and it does give mucho bang, or boom, for the buck. I haven't used it in my 2 ch system as my speakers are full range.
Consider the Hsu subs for the best price/performance...
