soundstaging problem with my Virgos

64.20.249.128

i'm currently trying to dial in my Virgos in my admittedly less than stellar soundroom. my main complaint is the speakers exhibiting a strong "directionality" when playing music. instruments are most definitely coming from the speaker elements, and i'm losing what i know is one of these speakers main strengths (i.e. soundstaging). i've heard these things properly set up and they do disappear. i'm wondering if this problem is a function of toe-in, listening distance, room interaction, or (probably) some combination of the above. what are other people's experiences in this area, and how does one create that soundstage that these speakers are so well known for? FYI i'm running the Virgos with an Assemblage SET platinum amp, Naim 3.5 CDP, and a Symphonic Line tube preamp. good, if not great gear. the sound overall is terrific but i do crave the huge soundstage.

thanks for the suggestions.

best,

gregg
