Speaker placement question

I have B&W speakers placed about 2 feet from the wall behind them and about 7 feet apart from each other. My listening position is about 10 feet back. I find the further I go back into this long room, the sound is much more three dimensional and the bass is much more noticeable. Generrally I thought one tries to sit in the listening position the same distance that is between the speakers, when possible. Your thoughts, please. Room size is 12x30. Thanks.
