Even D'Appolito now uses 4th order xo's on his MTM's

If you are looking for an easy solution use a standard active crossover go for the 24dB / octave solution. Trying to match your passive xo with a standard 18dB is unlikely to work, because you are not taking into account the roll-off of the drivers, especially the tweeter.

I think Sparky's descriptions are potentially misleading in that normally a D'Appolito MTM is an 18dB "acoustic solution", which takes into account the roll-off of the drivers AND the xo. This can be achieved with a variety of of crossover slope configurations depending on the drivers and crossover frequency chosen.

A 24dB active solution is likely to be a sharp enough roll-off to avoid too many problems with the driver roll-off slopes, and could be worth trying but may not be the absolute optimum result - depends how good the original passive crossover design was. Who designed your existing xo?
