RE: Down firing vs forward facing subwoofers - what are the benefits and differences

1st order crossover =6 dB/oct
2nd order = 12dB/oct
3rd =18dB/oct
4th = 24dB/oct
The other variables are frequency and "Q".
If I was going to EQ the subs,I would use a parametric equalizer.
Generally speaking the top and bottom crossover frequency are not the same .Otherwise there would be no blending of the drivers.Unless the top-end and said subwoofer have the same roll-off in frequency response
If you hear the sub independantly from the satelites,your sub is either
(1)too high in level
(2) too high in frequency
(3) poorly located and may never simulate being connected to the upper frequencies
