I have to agree with all that Brian and others have wrote below. I originally heard about these from Brian and another dealer friend some months ago so I had Ryan speakers send me the pair of 630's which are here right now that were used at RMAF a couple weeks. Am impressed with the sound in general, especially considering the price.
Enough so that I just emailed Trevor this morning to tell him that I will be keeping this pair and taking on the product line.
I agree with Brian that these are not for "audiophile" geeks (i.e. Not attention grabbers), but are very nicely balanced to bottom to top and listenable. I have done a cursory impedance measurement using my good LCR meter which shows them being a mostly resistive load/impedance at the frequencies it tests at (100, 120, 1k, and 10Khz) and that they mainly appear to be 4 ohms in the bass and above 6 ohms at 1K and 10K.
Our little Ars-Sonum 30W/ch tube integrated drives them surprising well for a 8 ohm optimized amp driving a 4 ohm speaker (i.e. The bass loses some definition - a tube amp with a bit more power and/or 4 or 6 ohm output would work well with them). The sound from upper bass on-up with the Ars-Sonum Filarmonia SJ shows off just how wonderful this little amp is with very nice tone, body, and staging. Right now am using the Rega Elicit-R on them which is doing a terrific job. They are easily revealing enough to clearly show the differences between Audience au24sx and Cardas Clear Lite speaker cables for example (that a customer clearly heard also this morning in a demo), but are not bright/ or fatiguing as Brian mentioned. They also disappear well and though being well out into our listening room, have satisfying weight and texture to the bottom end. Next up I need to try the Rogue Cronus on them which I think will be quite a good match.
Long story short... worth finding/visiting a nearby/regional Ryan Speaker dealer for a listen if possible.
Happy Listening,
