I guess you will know that I might not quite agree with you over the ATC 50's. Of course now they are available as floorstanders. Also it is important to bear in mind what era any given pair of active 50s come from as the speaker has developed in production over the years and, say, a 1993 pair will be different in every way except for the cabinet compared to a new or updated pair of Classics ( i.e. not the tower or floorstanding version).

As for listening position and placement of the speaker then this is going to vary according to the circumstances (I listen about 3m from them with their position being about 1.5m from the front wall and 65cm from the sides).

They are certainly revealing of upstream components so this also needs to be taken account of and it is easy to blame the speakers for a problem elsewhere.

Looking at the OP's profile and music likes I am sure that ATC 50s would be a possibility . However we dont know his budget and a pair of the actives are quite a financial proposition.
