How long have you been playing the new DAC? I'm a strong believer in electronic's burn-in period. Capacitors amongs other things do need some time to sound "right". even something as trivial as a two PSU caps swap in a mini T-amp resulted in the sound being overly bright for more than a week, and it was just TWO caps in the system.
If the DAC is properly burned-in, then maybe it's just better to return it!
