Oh I think age has something to do with evaluating your system. When I was 18 I would have put on a Zepplin record and cranked it. How loud can this puppy go!
By that age, I had been introduced to hearing tri-amped Tympani IIIs using ARC electronics by the local dealer playing pieces like The Planets and Symphonie Fantasique which in time became favorites. That experience was the first of many recalibrations over the years of just how realistic an audio system could be (later visits to Sea Cliff provided others). I was still listening to EL&P and Renaissance, but beginning to understand the lure of some classical music and the concept of a soundstage.
I purchased a pair of the Acoustat X electrostat two years later.
Consequently, my musical tastes are a bit eclectic. Last night, I mixed listening to Carmina Burana and Polyvetsian Dances with some 60's surf music: Pipeline, Wipeout and Walk, Don't Run. :)
