Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: Recommend a good 10" 4 ohm midrange driver for under $150 for ESS AMT1

I'd start out with the usual suspects, Madisound, Parts Express, or Meniscus. The Madisound technical talk guys have probably seen this before.

I think your ESS speakers have a passive radiator. If so, you can tune the cabinet by adding or subtracting weight from the passive. Look for a woofer with roughly the same Vas as your cabinet volume, SPL, sensitivity, and Qts which will give you an idea of a woofer's suitability for use in a sealed or ported cabinets. (Your passive radiator is equivalent to a port.)
