RE: So I'm re-foaming a pair of Thiel 04a Speakers...

I've refoamed hundreds of cones. Mostly never needed any solvent
on the cone side, if I do it's alcohol only, it'll soften the foam

The rotted foam pretty much easily crumbles off just scraping it
with a knive edge at 90 degree angle. Sometimes it'll peel off.

Clamping new foam (on the outer frame side) is a no-no, it tends to pull the foam out alignment and cause coil rubbing. I never use clamps.
