I have. I think the theory is what you hear at the listening position is a combination or direct and reflected sound; by extension, the reflected sound needs to be consistent across the crossover point, otherwise loudness will vary across the drivers.
I am not convinced of this as a prerequisite for a cohesive sound - its importance is probably room-dependent. Moreover, there are other important factors affecting coherence/ seamless(ness).
