Some people like to combine two different pairs of speakers, for a realistic portrayal of the event it's a big "no no", but it might sound "pleasant" for uncritical listening... same goes for speakers in 4 corners of the room, it's not hi-fidelity anymore, but it sure fills up the room with sound and envelops the listener, with some music it can be pleasing.
