RE: Dynaudio X44 or Kudos C20

When you say leaner , is that a plus or minus ?

im thinking a minus , meaning not alota low end ?

Could be a plus or minus. It really depends on your priorities & preferences in sound reproduction, your associated equipment, preferred music, and to some extent your room. If you're considering the Kudos, you definitely should try them out with your Simaudio amp before you purchase. I have a Simaudio Titan driving my C2s and a Simaudio W-5 LE driving the Focus 160s, so I know that Simaudio + Dynaudio works. The only caveat is that the 220i might not control the X44s in the bass as well as a beefier amp, but it should still sound good.

To explain a little bit what I meant by faster, there are two things I had in mind: First, it's the perception that the music is in a faster time. Of course, the reality is that it's not, but it can be perceived that way. Second, it refers to the attack of notes being more immediate, and the notes decaying at the rate captured on the recording without the speakers adding any extra sustain/decay.

I recently sold a pair of Wilson Benesch Vertex speakers which had a lean and very fast sound that I really enjoyed a lot with certain types of music e.g. fast jazz, fusion, electronic, especially psytrance, or anything with a lot of notes or complex rhythms. But they weren't so good for rock or classical music, which benefit from a fuller sound in the upper bass and lower midrange. The bass lines which underpin most rock recordings were under-represented, mainly in the harmonics. Lower register piano was missing some of its inherent richness and fullness. And listening to a symphony lacked weight and scale.

Some examples at the other end of the "speed" spectrum are Audio Notes and Harbeths, which have more of a liquid sound with longer decays, where notes transition from one into the other, providing more of a sense of musical flow. They do well for vocals, piano, minimalist jazz and most solo instruments, chamber music, romantic music. But in my listening experience, these types of speakers don't handle fast, complex, or polyrhythmic music very well.

Most Dynaudio speakers I've heard are somewhere in the middle. Some models are a little tipped up in the treble, e.g. Special 25 and Sapphire. And some models are a bit heavy in the bass, e.g. the Consequence, Contour S5.4 and S1.4. But they're all relatively even handed with different types of music.
