I had the N804s for a couple of years, moved to N802s and on to Thiel 3.7s. I think the strengths of the 804s are the ability to play loudly, punchy and pleasing bass, and the B&W midrange that can be somewhat magical in some situations. The weaknesses are a tweeter that has a pretty noticeable peak, not very well defined or accurate bass, and the B&W midrange that can be unresolving and weird in some situations.
I had bought a pair of old Thiel 2 2s a year or so before and loved them so I traded in the N802s for the Thiel 3.7s. Over time I came to prefer the Thiel sound because I didn't think it drew attention to itself with colorations or contours. I think the b&w sound is optimized for music that is dominated by vocals. Otherwise it's not that great.
The build quality is outstanding and the talking points are compelling. There's so much to talk about with B&W. All of the materials and manufacturing techniques are impressive. I don't think the performance is that great, though. Try some other brands before settling on B&W for the next 25 years.
