That's a great guess and it seems quite possible. I was also thinking that Japanese brands tend to be viewed as well known, reliable products and Americans don't feel that way about Chinese goods and demand a significant discount from the 'name brand'.

Mackie is more of a pro sound company which isn't as popular in the US with audiophiles or available in the Best Buys, but that attitude or experience could be totally different in Germany.
