I always love when people review a stereo and say, "quickly reveals bad recordings".In my narrow minded opinion - a good stereo makes even BAD recordings sound kinda good! Heck, on a good stereo scratchings on a chalk board should sound clean, clear, well balanced and with good bass and treble. Especially that 22k spike in the screeching.
oh the audio of it all.
But seriously. I think the major leap in speakers wasn't limited to the actual driver. In some cases yes. But mainly in the crossover. In design refinements and components technology. They have some wonderful tools to help tweak a crossover, box and alignments, phasing, etc.... And the capacitors available today, why some of them are simply golden.
