I also had a Passat (three actually) including a 2000 V6 model (with manual transmission of course!) that had the Monsoon. My aftermarket equipment from my previous car (Nakamichi head unit, Soundstream amps, A/D/S component speakers and Boston Pro sub) quickly replaced the Monsoon, however. Once you go with aftermarket, it's tough to go back to a stock system. I will say that my Audi's stock system was the best I'd ever heard (much better than the highly touted DVD 5-channel system in the Acura TL, which I owned for a while), but my current system is clearly better. Of course the down side is always having to remove/replace the equipment when you trade cars...I may be wrong, but I think Panasonic may have been at least a partial OEM for the Monsoon system...
