RE: Why no ProAc distributor

Some thoughts on an interesting question based on my experience with the 2 brands mentioned. I was associated with Proacs many moons ago and has in the past few years listened to many of the modern Spendor units. I must clarify that I have not heard the D43 Proac's or any of the new generation models from Steward Tyler though.
Proac's generally has more "personality", slightly more so than the Spendors. Their sound very engaging and alive with a presence that comes from their slightly forward lower highs, with a voicing that is always exciting and engaging. The bass of Proacs are full and agile, and they work extremely well with valve amps. They are emotional and never leaves you cold. Fit and finish is always excellent and the upmarket veneers can be stunning. The Rosewood, Burr oak etc was always stunning.
Spendors are more restrained and even in their voicing. They tend to be less impressive on 1st listen but with time show their virtues. They are also more forgiving of downstream sources and amps. I think they work well with SS anps, but valve amps should not be ruled out. The Statements look great and is very well finished, slightly more so than the rest of the range(A5-A9) which are well made but many prospective buyers might think they are just too bland.
Please remember these are generalisations about the brands more than comment on the specific models, but the personality of the products in the ranges always has been quite consistent.
I am fond of both and have a soft place for them. I can live with both, but will treat them slightly differently in building a system around them.
Hope it helps, and i am keen to see which way the dice would roll.
