Harbeths are voiced with the grills in place so they will be slightly brighter than intended with them off.
Years ago in the 70s I sold stereos. That was when almost every amp still had bass & treble controls. It was inevitable -- you'd demo the amp with the controls in the neutral position and within minutes virtually every customer had them tweaked up to at least 2 or 3 o'clock. They almost all preferred a little extra thump and sparkle.
These days, with tone controls gone, listeners have to work a bit harder to get that effect. ;-)
