Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Two bargains and a Bose

I'm installing the White LSR305 in my daughter's house - but though I'd run them through their paces. The 901V2's place the tweeter at just the right height. For $300 these JBL's do all the right audiophile things - and go down to 45 Hz. Compaired to the MMG's there tone balance is similar with the JBL tweeter set to +2 - though I listened to them mostly in the 0dB setting. The presentation is much more "Monitor" like but I feel the MMG's are more dynamic - or at least in an attack mode. My MMG's are biamp driven by 1000 Watts - so the comparison of a 80 Watts driving the little JBL's might be a little unfair. It was pretty easy with good program material to push the JBL into limiting... Advantage of Active loudspeakers is that you can program some form of limiter into them to prevent the "Nastise" od clipping.

Here is also a good picture to see the MMG's toed in @ 45 degrees tweeters in in their standard listening position
